~~~ Chali 2na ~~~
“Renaissance Man” of hip-hop, Chali 2na is distinguished by his rapid-fire rapping style. With a lifelong passion for music and the spoken word, Chali 2na was part of a hip-hop revolution featuring smart lyrics and eclectic rhythms, drawing influence from many genres such as salsa, reggae and soul music.
Best known for his association with the groups Jurassic 5 and Ozomatli, Chali 2na has also had a stand out solo career, notably in the Fish Market album series. The Fish Market series is remarkable for its exuberance and tongue-in-cheek attention to underlying social issues. Chali 2na is also an accomplished painter and these qualities are present in his artwork.
Hugely influential, Chali 2na has appeared in several films and documentaries including This is the Life, an award-winning documentary about the music movement birthed during open-mic nights at the Good Life Café where 2na cut his teeth, and RASH, a documentary-film about Melbourne street art in which he famously paints his signature, a tuna fish.
Chali 2na has collaborated with many artists and MCs, including Canadian electro-funk band, The Funk Hunters and internationally renowned DJ, Krafty Kuts.
